How can we improve our health and well-being?
Last month in class we spoke about good health and well-being (Sustenaibility_Citizenship Education. Nowadays lots of people eat ultra-processed food which is food that has been through the most industrial processing. They often have a long list of ingredients on the packets. It includes polular items like fizzy drinks, chicken nuggets and breakfast cereals. Some studies assesed that people who have a diet rich in this kind of food have the worst heart attack and die earlier. On the contrary, we learnt that to stay fit and live longer it is important to have fresh and organic food in our diet as well as to sleep 8 hours a day together with physical activity. Then we decided to make a survey, using Google forms, to see how many students have a healthy life style . All students answered the question “How healthy is your diet?”. The aim of the survey was to rise awareness of how important is healhty eating in our daily routine. Then we prepared an oral presentation to show the results to the class.

called upon all stakeholders to join together and make the internet a safer and
better place for all, especially for children and young people.
On 8th February is the Safer Internet Day 2022,the world
day dedicated to the positive use of Internet. It has the target to give
information and advice on the dangers of the net and how to protect ourselves
from the web risks.
The dangers caused by internet have
increased in the last few years expecially as a consequence of the lockdown due
to the covid-19 pandemic.
The observatory of Milan, again this year
has conducted a research about the time that 6,000 boys and girls between
13 and 23 years old, from all of Italy spend online. According to the research:
1 in 5 teenagers define himself/herself “always connected”. They found that:
6 in 10 participants don’t feel safe on
the internet. The girls are the most scared, especially of social media and of
dating app, 61.36% teenagers confirm the results.
It’s the Revenge porn to scare the most. It was a new issue faced by
the participants this year. 1 in 3 teenagers has seen their own intimate
photos, or their friends’ posted on
social networks.
Almost all girls (95.17%) says that pictures are being shared, without
their consent, to harass, shame and
blackmail them on a massive scale on the web.All this is horrible! The
percentage goes down between boys (89,76%).

being cyberbullied for over a year and a half, Rebecca, a 12-year-old girl from
Florida, took her own life. As a victim of harassment herself, Trisha was
shocked, heartbroken, and outraged - she couldn't be a bystander, and decided
to be an Upstander. In response, Trisha created the app ReThink™, which detects
and stops online hate at the source, before bullying occurs and the damage is
done. Her globally acclaimed research has found that with ReThink, adolescents
change their mind 93% of the time and decide not to post an offensive message.

Hello Trisha!
We are a lower secondary shool students living in the Italian
region of Campania, in a small town called Sant’Arpino. Before our teacher
introduced cyberbullying to the class, we didn’t know what the app ReThink was
and, honestly, we didn’t know who you were either! But after many lessons on
citizenship education and after talking about many important topics, like
racism, we also talked about cyberbullying, an issue that is mainly developing
around these decades, thanks to the advance of mobile devices. They are very
useful but also dangerous, especially for us kids and teens. We can chat and
have fun online, but we can also get hurt and hurt others. That’s why the app
ReThink is very important. It stops people from writing mean and hurtful
comments or texts to other people. It makes them ‘rethink’ their actions and if
they really want to write that or not. Most of the time they don’t write them!
We think this app has really helped to reduce cyberbullying. It’s just one more
step to fight against it. That’s why we’d love to invite you to our school, to
talk about this sort of ‘online bullying’, because victims of cyberbullying
often suicide. Luckily, there are no cases of cyberbullying in my class, but we
really appreciate so much for helping
our generation with this app.

“WORDS HURT”_ Carolina
Picchio’s story
-by III F
Carolina Picchio was a lovely and talented
14 years old girl who lived in Novara. One day she went to a friends’
party but she drank too much alcohol so she didn’t feel well. She went to the
bathroomto throw up but she fainted. Then 3 guys saw her
completely asleep on the floor. They began to film while pretending to have sex
with her. It all started as a joke but they shared the video on socials .It soon became
viral. The next days she received a lot of insults. The hate comments became more and more horrific!
When she saw all those comments she got really embarrassed, she felt humiliated and isolated. On 5th January 2013 at 3:00 a.m.. Carolina jumped off her room balcony, but before suiciding herself she left one last message for her father and all of us. She posted a selfie with a message: "Words hurt more than slaps" "Le parole fanno più male delle botte". She wrote one more message for the father : "I love you daddy".
Carolina Picchio was the first Italian
victim of cyberbullying. After her suicide a law, n.71/2017, against
cyberbullying was passed by the Italian government. In her name there’s a
foundation https://www.fondazionecarolina.org/2021/chi-siamo/la-fondazione/ to prevent and stop cyberbullying. We, want to send a message, as students from class 3F: if you think that
surfing online is all fun and game you’re wrong because sometimes it
isn't. Words can be a way to express your love, kindness and joy but they can
also be a way to spread hate against other people. So rethink about your
actions when you post something on-line. Make other people feel safe on
Internet and always be an upstander. If you see cyberbullying, always tell to
an adult and help your friends to get out of the wrong situation.

Mother’s day
Did you know?
This year Mother’s
Day is on 9th May, with almost 100 countries – including much of
Europe, Africa and South America – following the American system.
However this is not the case in U.K., as for International Workers’ Day they do things differently! Actually Mother’s Day was two months ago,on 14th
March. It’s usually in March, mean while in Italy it’s on the second Sunday
in May but despite the difference in date, the celebrations are alike in both
countries. It’s s worth recalling
how special mums are all over the world!
All of us know that the best thing that God gave us is our mother,
because even if you hurt her, even if you hate her, even if you don’t want her
help, she will always help you and support you, because you are always her little child. In our lives, we have a lot of problems,
but if you are a strong person, you can turn problems into advice. This strong
person is always our mum.
Our mothers
have taught us to live, they can be called the pillar of our life. Our mums are
and they will be proud of us nevertheless we fail over and over again.
They also give us advice every day to help us
to face better life challenges. So we decided to choosethe best piece of life advice
some readers learned from their mums, published by the British newspaper”The Guardian”on 12th March 2021.
“Problems do
not exist.Only challenges”
“Jealousy makes
people do strange things’
“Don’t judge
the future by the past”
“The best way
to make friends is to find a hobby”
“Energy begets
energy”
“Eat breakfast”
‘Turkeys are just
a big chickens’ for something that feels like a challenge, but it’s actually just a
bigger version of something you’ve done before.
“Be practical”
“Don’t follow
the crowd”
‘Will it matter
tomorrow?’it’s a good way
to put life’s troubles into perspective
“This shall pass”

All about Workers’ Day
DID YOU KNOW?
International Workers' Day is a celebration of working people and a day when people campaign for decent work and fair pay all over the world. Thanks to action taken by workers over many years, millions of people have won fundamental rights and protections. Minimum wages have been established, there are limits on working hours, and people have the right to paid holidays and sick pay. However this celebration is not on May 1st everywhere…let’s compare British and Italian Workers’ Day!
IN ITALYMay 1st is the Workers’s Day or Labour’s Day which this year falls
on a Saturday for the so-called long bridge although we will spendit at home for
the COVID-19 emergency. The origins in Italy and in the world are very ancient
so much that the party dates back to the second half of the 19th century following
the protests of the workers to obtain a reduction in working hours. Thanks to
those protests, the working day was in fact set at 8 hours a day, except for
overtimewhich, however, must be regulated as happens in our country
through collective bargaining. In Italy, on May 1st, the Labour Day is celebrated
with the traditional concert in Piazza San Giovanni in Rome,
however this year it will be in streaming. Labour Day was not born in Italy, but in
Paris in 1889 to arrive on this side of the Alps two years later. Suspended during
the Fascist period, 1st May became a national workers' day in 1947.
THE WORKERS' DAY IN U.K.: MAY DAY
In the U.K.
too people celebrates the workers’ Day,
however, the celebrations, unlike in Italy, take place on the first Monday in
May. This day is called "MayDay".
The
origins of the Workers' Day in
England have very ancient roots. According to the Anglo-Saxon traditionall the
English peasants, in this period of the year, gathered in the squares of
their villages to celebrate with typical dances and folk songs the period of the
fertility of the earth and the abundant work.
The
dances took place around the traditional "May pole", which was raised in
the center of the square. This custom is known as the "May pole dance".
In addition, parades were also organized where the most beautiful girl in the
villagewaselected queen of May.
The
winning child paraded through the streets of the town on a wagon, accompanied by
folk music, which gave life to traditional folk dances, such as the "Morris
Dance".This tradition is still alive.
HOW DO YOU CELEBRATE MAY DAY TODAY?
Labour Day in England is still very much felt today and they celebrate the rights gained by
workers through their struggles and, at the same time, the arrival of spring.
This year it will be celebrated on May 3rd. On this day lots of activities will be organized such as:
events, demonstrations, fashion, shows, folk , dances
All these activities evoke the ancient Anglo-Saxon folk traditions that are the basis of the Labour Day.

EARTH DAY
"Earth Day" is the name given to the day when we celebrate the environment and the preservation of the planet Earth. The United Nations celebrate this anniversary every year, one month and one day after the spring equinox, on April 22. Our Planet is in danger because of climate changes and pollution, that are causing frequent floods, desertification and extinction of some animal and plant species. But there’s a solution to all this. Every day, we can do many small actions to live better on our Planet, and they will make a strong difference in the future. Let’s see what we can do.
Water is as pure as gold, but there’s a water crisis caused by too much water waste. To prevent this, we can turn off the water immediately after we brush our teeth or we wash our hands, so we’ll save hundreds of liters of water a week.
We use electricity every day to do almost everything. Every time we leave a room, it’s better to turn off the lights, as well as when we use a computer or a printer. And saving paper is not less important than saving energy! If we use a lot of paper, we’ll have to cut down lots of trees, that are essential for our survival.
Fossil fuels are responsible for 80% of the global warming, but we can use another type of energy: renewable energy. It’s cleaner and it comes from wind, water and the Sun. If countries used more solar, wind and water power, they could reduce global warming and pollution.
Rainforests recycle water and regulate the climate, so they are very important for our health. Half of our medicines come from plants which grow there, so it’s thanks to these forests that we’re able to produce them.
And, of course, we should always re-use some objects for other purposes, recycle plastic, metal and glass, and avoid buying unnecessary things, so that we can save money and cause less pollution.
Start today, if we wait, it’ll be too late!
So, always remember: there is no Planet B!

Harry and Meghan interview:
In this last week, Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex,
gave an interview that made the whole world talk. The two young spouses,
parents for a year and soon will be again, in their interview talk about how
difficult it was to be under the pressure of the royal family. The couple spoke
to Oprah Winfrey, an American talk show host, about the allegations of racism
against the Royal Family.
In it, the duchess - who is the first mixed-race member of the modern Royal Family - said a low point came when Harry was asked by an unnamed royal family member "how dark"; their son Archie's skin might be. The Duchess talks about how during her pregnancy she had thoughts regarding suicide, "I didn't want to be alive any more". She says that behind all the smiling shots, there was a reality full of fear and worries.
What is Racism?
Race
Discrimination
There are no
excuses for racism.
Racism takes
many forms and can happen in many places. It includes prejudice, discrimination
or hatred directed at someone because of their colour, ethnicity or national
origin. People often associate racism with acts of abuse or harassment.
However, it doesn’t need to involve violent or intimidating behaviour. Take
racial name-calling and jokes. Or consider situations when people may be
excluded from groups or activities because of where they come from.
Racism can be
revealed through people’s actions as well as their attitudes. It can also be
reflected in systems and institutions. But sometimes it may not be revealed at
all. Not all racism is obvious. For example, someone may look through a list of
job applicants and decide not to interview people with certain surnames. Racism
is more than just words, beliefs and actions. It includes all the barriers that
prevent people from enjoying dignity and equality because of their race.

Donald John Trump, entrepreneur and politician, has been the 45th President of the United States of America since January 20-2017. His histrionic behavior, his narcissism, his impulsiveness generate distrust in many groups, including those who work with him every day. During the last year of his presidency, the United States was faced with the COVID-19 pandemic, with negative consequences on the economy of the country. Trump underestimated the situation, despite warnings of officials and executives.

Having lost the election, Trump was the fourth president, since

the hours after the count, he has refused to acknowledge the outcome of the
votes and the victory of the challenger, announcing legal appeals for alleged

On November 25th , the class 2B has argued on "the day against the violence on women".
Here some of their reflections and works.
November 25th: "Stop Violence against women".
Every year many women are raped by men. If you want to love a woman, approach her not with your fists but with your heart. If you are witness of violence, don't be only a bystander, report it to the police, if you can't, try to do something to give your help.
Salvatore Lavino 2B
Today, during the english lesson, we've made some posters for the " the day against the violence on women". We' ve watched some videos of a lot of activists all around the world. One of the videos talked about an activist who told her mother was raped by her father. She said " don't be a bystander". So help women who needs!
Every day women are beaten by aggressive men, it sometimes happens in public, you could do something: you can call the police or try to stop the man. If you are a woman in danger, you should denounce!
Women, we have got the right and the duty to denounce!
(Francesca Mignone 2B)
“…Violence against Women is a human rights Violation…”
“…la violenza
sulle donne è una violazione dei diritti umani…”
International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women 2020
Class: 3^I
Rocco School
The woman is strong!
The woman is brave! The woman loves! Only a little man uses violence on the
woman to feel great. I think people like that should not be forgiven. Often
women justified their horrible gestures on the pretext: “…he was tired of work”
or “…but he apologized to me” NO this violence is not justifiable. Man must not
beat woman but must cuddle her. He must not offend woman but must reassure her.
He must not kill woman but must love her. If he humiliates you, if he threatens you, if he
intimidates you... THIS IS NOT LOVE!
- Francesca Mozzillo
#SAYSTOP!
- Martina Speranza
I think that violence
against women is an unforgivable crime. In 2020 it is not possible that
millions of women are still being mistreated, beaten just for fun. Women are
like jewels and no one should be allowed to treat them badly. Nowadays there
are also many associations to defend these women, but sometimes they are fear of
their boyfriends or of their husbands. Denounce them can be the only solution
to save themselves.
ENOUGH VIOLENCE
-
Martina Borrelli
I think a
man who hits or kills a woman cannot be
defined as such. If you see an episode of domestic violence, don't be a bystander!
-
Antonio Di Vilio
I think this Day is very
important. Violence against women is spreading more and more in the light of
the sun, this is not a good thing! A
woman must not be bumped, abused. Love is not Love if he tells you that next
time it will not happen again. Asking for help, can save yourself!
-
Annalaura Martiniello
In my opinion, Violence against women in not
acceptable whether it is a mental or physical abuse.
- Joseph

Crime and love are often linked.
-
Daniela Pitocchelli
In my opinion, this
kind of news are very important but, at the same time, they are also very
delicate. I agree with those who say: "It is important to let people know
what is happening". but I also agree with those who say that violence,
rape, abuse are personal matters, which affect, disturb the dignity of the
victim. For this it is not right to make them public.
- Chiara
Giordano
I think violence solves Nothing, dialogue can be the resolution to
overcome most of the problems.
-
Alessia Scarano.
It is shameful to see violence against women still in 2020. Men should not afford to lay a finger on women.
-
Vincenzo Bottino.
For me, violence against women is one of the worst things
in this world. EVERY woman is afraid to dress in a certain way for fear of being
insulted or even abused. EVERY man should respect all the women because they
gave us life.
- Felice
Iovinella
We live in a society
that teaches women to defend themselves against rape instead of teaching men
not to rape. Violence against women exists thanks to
ungrateful and ignorant men.
- Andrea
Costanzo
According to me, Violence against women should not really exist!
- Teresa
Falco
For me, a woman must be respected and loved especially when a love
affair ends. Man must accept her decision!
-
Alessio Moccia.

heart not of the hands.
